My journey began at eleven years old, selling avocados from my family’s orchard in California. What started as a simple childhood business quickly became a lifelong passion for entrepreneurship, design, manufacturing, and creativity.
Over the last five decades, I have started more than 100 businesses from concept to profitability across a wide range of industries — manufacturing, restaurants, hotels, automotive, publishing, art, product development, construction, and international distribution. Every business taught me something new, and every challenge pushed me to become more creative.
In 1981, I began designing and building sculptures. What started with a five-foot rusted steel peace sign hanging in one of my factories evolved into a lifetime of creating one-of-a-kind art pieces, functional sculptures, custom furniture, architectural elements, water features, and products that have been sold around the world. Most of my creations are original concepts born from a simple question:1981 年,我开始设计和制作雕塑。
My advantage has always been the combination of creativity and manufacturing. Over the years I have gained extensive knowledge of machinery, fabrication, materials, engineering, design, and production. Having access to factories, equipment, and skilled craftsmen allows me to take an idea from a sketch in my mind and transform it into a finished piece of art, product, or business.
Whether working with steel, copper, bronze, acrylic, glass, stone, wood, liquid, light, or technology, I enjoy pushing materials beyond their traditional uses. I see possibilities where others see limitations.
Today, my work spans fine art, sculpture, manufacturing, product design, business consulting, publishing, and technology — including the launch of my own startup application, a project that industry professionals believe has tremendous potential.
I have learned that creativity is not limited to art. Creativity builds businesses. Creativity solves problems. Creativity creates opportunities. Creativity turns ordinary materials into extraordinary value.
I have always carried one mindset: build for larger profits. If you run the same business as everyone else, you are forced to charge what everyone else charges. But design something entirely new — something no one has thought of yet — and you arrive first to market. When you are first, you set the price. No one can tell you what the product is worth, because you invented it.
So I am always thinking of the next new product, the one with a margin far beyond what the competition can reach. And the only real way to get there is to use the creative side of your brain.
A creative mind is rare in business. Rarer still is the mind that pairs creativity with the discipline to drive profit margins past nearly everyone else. There are two forces at work here: unbounded imagination, and structured, pragmatic execution. Plenty of people can generate ideas. Few have the discipline and the risk tolerance to turn a wild concept into a sustainable, profitable reality.
The creative process runs on non-linear thinking, on intuition, on a willingness to sit with ambiguity. It demands tolerance for failure — real creativity means taking emotional and financial risk on unproven ideas. And the creative business mind works across disciplines. It is not just the marketer, the engineer, or the financier; it connects the dots between all of them — a cross-functional instinct few people ever develop.
I kept pushing the boundaries farther and faster, as fast as my mind could work. A photographic memory helps a great deal. I love taking raw materials and twisting, bending, shaping, and fabricating them into world-class products.
But the idea is only half of it. Execution of a well-made design is everything. If you are going to charge top dollar, you had better deliver the quality that justifies the price.
Everything around it has to match — and then beat it. A great product demands a great logo. The website, the business cards, the brochure, the showroom, the marketing materials — every piece has to look even better than the product itself. Done right, the moment someone sees the product alongside that caliber of presentation, you look and feel like a Fortune 500 company.
I will always create. My two greatest skills are design and fabrication — building quality, creative work that no one else thought to make.
